Volunteer Opportunities

We’ve listed here a few of the many volunteer opportunities available in and around Xela. If you don’t see anything you are interested in but still want to do something, you should talk to Entremundos about what else is available.

EntreMundos is a local NGO dedicated to strengthening local organizations through providing traning, resources, and volunteers. For more information about the following and over 100 other opportunities, contact volunteering@entremundos.org, or come by the office at 6a Calle 7-31 Zona 1 for a consulation (25Q) between 2pm and 5pm, Monday to Thursday.

Nuevos Horizontes: Support the programmes at Guatemala’s first women’s shelter, working with children of survivors of domestic violence. Meeting for new volunteers Mondays at 4.30 in El Cuartito, or contact nhcoordinadoras@gmail.com

Chico Mendes – Work with this small reforestation project with a big vision – planting 100,000 trees in 3 years. Call Armando 5531 3082.

Manos de Colores – Help teach English or provide after school support to children of marginalized communities. Meeting for new volunteers Mondays at 5.30 in the Blue Angel, or contact manosdecolores@gmail.com.

Casa de Mi Amigo – Cook, serve food, or provide social company and support to marginalized seniors living in Xela, daily between 11.30am and 2pm. Contact drarmas@itelgua.com (in Spanish).

Todos Juntos: Help out in the afternoon with educational support and activities at a family support centre in Llanos de Pinal. Contact Carmen at dealvarado2004@yahoo.com (in Spanish).

PIES de Occidente: Work in rural areas around Xela with this NGO that focuses on traditional Mayan medicine, and midwifery in particular. Contact anapiesoccidente@gmail.com.

La Florida: Volunteer at this cooperative organic coffee farm 3 hours from Xela, and help with the coffee process, in the school, and with other community activities. Call Rosaura (in Spanish) at (502) 5740 – 9066.

Trama Textiles: Support this weaving association of 400 indigenous women at their headquarters and store here in Xela. Contact trama.textiles@yahoo.com (in English or Spanish).
